Amnesty t-shirt worn by student

Congratulations to Claire, winner of the Blood, Sweatshop and Tears Amnesty International t-shirt.

The t-shirt is fairtrade and organic and all Amnesty t-shirts are ethically sourced and made on a fair living wage. This t-shirt was designed in collaboration with students from the London College of Fashion to create fashion forward artwork, with a serious message. Under the theme of Modern Slavery, Modern Fashion, this winning design highlights the rights of garment workers around the world.

“We looked at human rights article # 24, how everyone is entitled to free time and personal time, we thought about recreational activities that a lot of us take for granted… whereas people in third world countries working for fashion factories have to work ridiculously long shifts. For the slogan we were looking at Rocky at that time, because he boxes and he has his jump rope. And then we were looking at iconic poster imagery, we thought of Rocky Blood Sweat and Tears, so it seemed appropriate to expand it with a slight twist. The message was just to highlight that child labour was used in fast fashion and these children don’t have the time to play and be children like the rest of us did, is what we wanted to spotlight,” Janice Choi, Hyunhye Kim, Shoon Wei Teoh, Wuyou Wang, Chunyang Zhu
